There are a lot of misconceptions out there about why vegans lose weight — and lose it fast. Contrary to popular belief, eating meat doesn’t make you fat. Actually, what you’re going to learn is that vegans have to make dietary choices that lead them to eat foods that promote weight loss. On top of that, vegans are less likely to eat processed foods because they often contain animal products.

 

Vegans eat a lot of greens

A lot of greens on a plate means a good, healthy meal. Greens are among the most nutritionally rich foods on the planet, plus they are low calorie. They are also filling! Kale, broccoli, spinach and other green vegetables make great soups, stir fries and salads. They are packed with minerals, vitamins and fiber, making them easily digestible and low with calories.

 

Vegans usually avoid processed foods

Vegans are among the discerning part of society that reads nutritional labels religiously. This is because if you’re a vegan, you have to make sure none of your packaged food contains milk products or other animal products. And what vegans often find is that many of their favorite processed foods aren’t vegan, and so they avoid them.

 

In fact, many processed foods such as potato chips and candies are definitely not vegan. This is surprising for those of us who don’t read nutritional information. And naturally, avoiding processed foods is one of the best ways to lose weight. It’s often the sugars and fats present in processed foods that make them extremely impractical for someone wanting to lose weight. So if you want to lose weight, steer clear of processed/packaged foods!

 

Vegans are more likely to employ a healthy lifestyle

Those who are very conscious about the foods they eat are usually much more conscious of how they use the rest of their time, too. For example, someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen preparing vegan food also probably thinks about exercise. Exercise is vital for someone wanting to lose weight, and for many of us, it’s a fleeting thought. However, if you usually think carefully about eating healthy food, you probably think about being more active, too!

 

Vegans prepare most of their food at home

If you aren’t a vegan, it’s easy enough to wander into the nearest bakery during your lunch break to pick up some food. As a vegan, however, it’s harder to indulge in such delicacies. Being strict on not consuming animal products means knowing what goes into your food all the time. This also lends itself to preparing most of your food at home. And as we know, home-cooked food is generally more conducive to a weight-loss regime. You have total control over the amount of salt, fat and sugar that goes into the meal.

 

If vegans lose weight faster than most people, it’s probably because of these reasons. It isn’t really because they don’t eat meat. Rather, it’s because they avoid processed foods, prepare most of their own food at home and think about other lifestyle factors such as exercise. In fact, to lose weight, it isn’t necessary to cut out meat or animal products. It just means being more conscious of the foods we consume. And trust me, once you learn to read a nutrition label, you’ll always be on top of what you eat.
